Cooperation\u00a0between\u00a0civil society,\u00a0members of parliament, journalists,\u00a0and bloggers\u00a0to\u00a0fight tuberculosis.<\/p>\n

From May\u00a016-18, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population of Tajikistan,\u00a0in collaboration\u00a0with the USAID Tuberculosis Eradication Project in Central Asia and the PAS Center,\u00a0hosted\u00a0two\u00a0significant\u00a0events:<\/p>\n

A forum\u00a0for\u00a0civil society organizations\u00a0focused\u00a0on\u00a0accountability in achieving regional and global\u00a0targets\u00a0for\u00a0tuberculosis\u00a0control.<\/p>\n

Regional seminar on “Strengthening media coverage of tuberculosis”. Representatives of civil society, members of parliament, journalists and bloggers attended this event. Their participation helped to deepen our understanding of the issues related to tuberculosis and discuss solutions. The event was attended by representatives from national and local non-governmental organizations, associations of people living with tuberculosis, community groups, religious organizations, professional associations, foundations, and journalists from Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as Eastern European countries like Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.<\/p>\n

During\u00a0the\u00a0three-day meeting, representatives\u00a0from\u00a0nine countries shared their experiences and discussed the\u00a0roles\u00a0of MPs, civil society,\u00a0and the media in\u00a0promoting\u00a0accountability for global and regional\u00a0objectives. This\u00a0event\u00a0took place\u00a0on the eve of\u00a0a\u00a0high-level UN General Assembly\u00a0meeting\u00a0on tuberculosis,\u00a0scheduled\u00a0for\u00a0September 2023.<\/p>\n

On the third day of the forum, participants\u00a0from\u00a0the summit of deputies\u00a0from\u00a0the European Parliament and Central Asia on tuberculosis control, organized by\u00a0the\u00a0Caucus Global TB\u00a0group, as well as the regional seminar “Strengthening\u00a0Tuberculosis\u00a0Coverage\u00a0in the\u00a0Media”, held\u00a0as\u00a0part\u00a0of the USAID project, joined\u00a0the\u00a0event. In total,\u00a0over\u00a0one hundred representatives\u00a0from\u00a0civil society, parliamentarians, journalists,\u00a0and bloggers from Central Asia, the Caucasus,\u00a0and Eastern Europe\u00a0participated\u00a0in these three events.<\/p>\n

As a result, a joint statement was\u00a0issued. In this\u00a0document, representatives\u00a0from\u00a0the World Tuberculosis Forum and civil society organizations\u00a0reiterated\u00a0their\u00a0commitment\u00a0to\u00a0making\u00a0every effort to\u00a0eliminate\u00a0tuberculosis. They also agreed on an action plan\u00a0to\u00a0ensure\u00a0a sustainable political response to the disease and\u00a0mitigate\u00a0the effects of future pandemics in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.\u00a0These\u00a0measures\u00a0are\u00a0necessary\u00a0to achieve the goals set\u00a0by\u00a0the UN\u00a0High-Level\u00a0Summit in 2023.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
