USAID\u00a0<\/strong>is supporting<\/strong>\u00a0the government of\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0<\/strong>Khatlon\u00a0<\/strong>Region<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/strong>bringing together<\/strong>\u00a0stakeholders to address\u00a0<\/strong>issues\u00a0<\/strong>related\u00a0<\/strong>to tuberculosis.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On November 23rd, 2021, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Tuberculosis Eradication Project in Central Asia collaborated with the Government of the Khatlon Region to organize a coordination meeting with representatives from cities and districts in the region. The goal of the meeting was to discuss current issues related to tuberculosis. The meeting was attended by leaders from the National Program for Tuberculosis Prevention, heads of local health care centers, tuberculosis specialists from 26 different regions, and representatives from other relevant organizations. Participants discussed the National Tuberculosis Strategy for 2021-2025, which includes the implementation of new treatment protocols for multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB). They also discussed challenges faced by the Khatlon region, such as difficulties in diagnosing and treating MDR-TB.<\/p>\n

In addition, the meeting participants discussed\u00a0several\u00a0important topics, including\u00a0the impact of\u00a0COVID-19 on tuberculosis\u00a0detection,\u00a0ways\u00a0to improve public access to\u00a0tuberculosis\u00a0services,\u00a0and\u00a0methods\u00a0to increase health financing.\u00a0Based on\u00a0the\u00a0recommendations\u00a0of the\u00a0meeting’s\u00a0chair, the\u00a0government\u00a0of the Khatlon region\u00a0plans to\u00a0publish an official\u00a0government\u00a0protocol. This document will detail the issues\u00a0discussed\u00a0at the meeting and\u00a0propose\u00a0solutions.<\/p>\n

This was the first meeting,\u00a0bringing\u00a0together more than 90\u00a0representatives\u00a0from various organizations,\u00a0including\u00a0centers for combating violence, primary health care systems, the Committee on Women and Family Affairs, the Committee on Youth Affairs, migrant services,\u00a0and district law enforcement agencies\u00a0in\u00a0the Khatlon region. The\u00a0meeting’s chairman\u00a0expressed concern about further integration and coordination\u00a0among\u00a0all organizations involved in\u00a0treating,\u00a0preventing,\u00a0and\u00a0caring\u00a0for\u00a0tuberculosis patients. He\u00a0proposed\u00a0organizing additional meetings to plan the implementation of recommendations and address issues\u00a0outlined\u00a0in the protocol.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0meeting was presented as a\u00a0model\u00a0and will continue in\u00a0other\u00a0regions\u00a0under\u00a0republican\u00a0jurisdiction\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0Sughd region.<\/p>\n
