The three-day event\u00a0is\u00a0being\u00a0organized by the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan and the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Phthisiology and Pulmonology,\u00a0with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Health Organization, KfW Development Bank and the Stop\u00a0Tuberculosis\u00a0Partnership.<\/p>\n<p>The conference is attended by\u00a0over\u00a0300\u00a0healthcare professionals\u00a0and specialists from Australia, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, the\u00a0United States,\u00a0and Uzbekistan. The\u00a0aim of the\u00a0event is\u00a0to\u00a0enhance\u00a0the government&#8217;s\u00a0ability\u00a0to work and\u00a0provide\u00a0sustainable financing\u00a0for\u00a0tuberculosis control programs during the COVID-19 pandemic,\u00a0as well as\u00a0address the\u00a0challenges\u00a0of the pandemic\u00a0and\u00a0the fight against tuberculosis.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-837\" src=\"https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2506\" height=\"1673\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-2-1.jpg 2506w, https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-2-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-2-1-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-2-1-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-2-1-1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-2-1-2048x1367.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2506px) 100vw, 2506px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At\u00a0the event,\u00a0the\u00a0U.S.\u00a0ambassador\u00a0to Uzbekistan,\u00a0Daniel Rosenblum,\u00a0noted that\u00a0this\u00a0conference demonstrates the\u00a0importance of\u00a0cooperation and commitment\u00a0from\u00a0Central Asian governments to\u00a0stop\u00a0the spread of tuberculosis, a deadly but\u00a0treatable\u00a0disease.\u00a0He\u00a0expressed\u00a0his\u00a0appreciation for\u00a0the nearly\u00a030-year\u00a0partnership\u00a0between the United States and\u00a0the\u00a0governments\u00a0of Central Asia\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0fight against\u00a0tuberculosis eradication.\u00a0He\u00a0highlighted\u00a0the significant\u00a0improvement in\u00a0access to quality medical services\u00a0as a result\u00a0of their joint efforts,\u00a0which has led\u00a0to a\u00a0substantial\u00a0reduction in tuberculosis cases and deaths compared to ten years ago.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00abThe goal of the\u00a0World Health Organization\u00a0(WHO)\u00a0Eliminate Tuberculosis\u00a0Strategy\u00a0is to reduce the incidence of tuberculosis by 50%\u00a0and the number of deaths from tuberculosis by 75%\u00a0by 2025,\u00a0compared to 2015.\u00a0The National Tuberculosis Program of Uzbekistan\u00a0aims\u00a0to\u00a0achieve\u00a0the goals\u00a0set by\u00a0the\u00a0High-Level\u00a0Meeting of the\u00a0United Nations\u00a0General Assembly on the\u00a0diagnosis\u00a0and\u00a0treatment\u00a0of\u00a0tuberculosis.\u00a0This includes\u00a0paying special attention to patients with drug-resistant and childhood tuberculosis.\u00a0Based on WHO recommendations,\u00a0more than\u00a0a dozen regulatory documents have been developed in the field of tuberculosis control.\u00a0Over\u00a0a hundred percent\u00a0coverage of treatment\u00a0for\u00a0all forms of tuberculosis, including drug-resistant\u00a0cases, has been achieved in all regions of the republic.\u00a0This has\u00a0made it possible to achieve\u00a0a\u00a090% cure\u00a0rate\u00a0for Tuberculosis. Currently, the Ministry of Health\u00a0emphasizes\u00a0the\u00a0importance\u00a0of preventive\u00a0measures\u00a0in the\u00a0work\u00a0of medical institutions.\u00a0The\u00a0goal is to\u00a0detect and prevent the spread of tuberculosis\u00a0as early\u00a0as possible,\u00a0as well as\u00a0to\u00a0ensure\u00a0universal access to\u00a0diagnostics\u00a0and treatment\u00bb.\u00a0According to\u00a0Professor Nargiza Parpieva, Director of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center\u00a0for\u00a0Phthisiology and\u00a0Pulmonology,\u00a0this is a priority for the ministry.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-838\" src=\"https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-3-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2510\" height=\"1671\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-3-1.jpg 2510w, https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-3-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-3-1-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-3-1-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-3-1-1536x1023.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ntp.tj\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TB-conference-3-1-2048x1363.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2510px) 100vw, 2510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Despite\u00a0significant progress\u00a0made\u00a0by\u00a0Central Asian countries in limiting the spread of tuberculosis, drug-resistant\u00a0strains\u00a0of the disease continue to be\u00a0a priority in the region. The COVID-19 pandemic has\u00a0exacerbated\u00a0the situation,\u00a0with\u00a0patients&#8217; access to\u00a0tuberculosis\u00a0diagnosis\u00a0being\u00a0reduced.<\/p>\n<p>To address\u00a0this\u00a0challenge,\u00a0the\u00a0United States is\u00a0collaborating\u00a0with\u00a0governments\u00a0and\u00a0other\u00a0stakeholders\u00a0in\u00a0the region to combat\u00a0the\u00a0infectious disease. In Uzbekistan,\u00a0for example,\u00a0the joint efforts of USAID and the National Tuberculosis Program have\u00a0shortened\u00a0the time for\u00a0diagnosing\u00a0multidrug-resistant tuberculosis from 90 days to\u00a0just\u00a0few\u00a0hours.\u00a0Additionally,\u00a0to\u00a0mitigate\u00a0the impact of the pandemic on tuberculosis\u00a0diagnosis, a new procedure for\u00a0simultaneously\u00a0testing for\u00a0both\u00a0tuberculosis and COVID-19\u00a0was\u00a0developed.<\/p>\n<p>The event is a continuation of four previous international conferences on integrated tuberculosis control,\u00a0which were\u00a0held with the support of USAID in\u00a0Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan (2019),\u00a0Dushanbe, Tajikistan (2018),\u00a0Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (2017),\u00a0and Almaty, Kazakhstan (2016).<\/p>\n<p>USAID is the leading international development\u00a0organization in the world\u00a0and a catalyst for\u00a0positive\u00a0change.
