TRAINING COURSE ON THE GENEXPERT 10-COLOR DEVICE, XPERT MTB/RIF ULTRA CARTRIDGES, XPERT MTB/XDR CARTRIDGES AND THE DIAGNOSTICS OF TUBERCULOSIS IN CHILDREN

The State Institution “Republican Center for the Protection of the Population from Tuberculosis” in cooperation with the USAID project to eliminate tuberculosis in Tajikistan organized training on the use of 10-color GeneXpert devices, Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra, Xpert MTB/XDR cartridges and the diagnosis of tuberculosis in children.

42 specialists from the national tuberculosis control laboratories have been trained to operate and maintain the 10-color GeneXpert devices. The 10-color GeneXpert devices, compared to the 6-color devices using Xpert MTB/XDR cartridges, have the ability to detect a broadly adapted form of tuberculosis. Including detection of resistance to the following anti-TB drugs: isoniazid, ethionamide, fluoroquinolones and aminoglycosides (kanamycin, amikacin, capreomycin).

Before the introduction of the GeneXpert 10-colour devices and Xpert MTB/XDR cartridges, detection of widely adapted TB(tuberculosis) took at least three days and was only available in central and regional laboratories. During the training, TB laboratory specialists were also trained to diagnose TB in children using a fazla (or faeces) sample. This method is non-invasive and facilitates the detection of TB in children in cases where sputum is difficult to obtain from children.

Modern methods expand the possibilities of diagnosing tuberculosis in Tajikistan, especially identifying cases of tuberculosis in children and determining its widely adapted form.
