What kind of disease is bone tuberculosis?
In 2017, Umarjon underwent surgery at the Kariyai Bolo Hospital. During this surgery, he was diagnosed with osteomyelitis, a disease he had been suffering from for five years. In the end of May 2022, he turned to the doctors at the National Center for Tuberculosis, Pulmonary, and Thoracic Surgery, also known as Machiton, which is located in the city of Vahdat. Since then, he has been receiving treatment under the supervision of the specialists at this facility.
Umarjon Abdullayev is the fourth child in his family. He is in the third grade with his peers, but due to an illness, he had to temporarily stay away from school. In a conversation with his mother, who takes care of him while he is in the hospital, she explained that the illness came from Allah and that healing also comes from Him. At that time, friends and relatives visited them. Thanks to the support from the doctors at this hospital, they were able to overcome all stages of the illness, and to this day, every treatment and appointment recommended by the specialists is carried out according to the established schedule.
One of the potential causes of bone tuberculosis is injury, such as a bruise or fracture to one of the bones. During this time, parents may turn to home remedies, which can sometimes lead to the development of other conditions, including bone tuberculosis, according to Firdavs Nabotov, the head of the Pediatric Bone Tuberculosis Department at the National Center for Pulmonary Tuberculosis and Thoracic Surgery.
Umarjon Abdullayev is a patient currently under observation in the hospital. The doctor has provided the following information about his condition: “Before coming to our clinic, the patient had undergone surgery twice with a diagnosis of osteomyelitis. Upon contacting our facility, we conducted an exam, performed a CT scan, and diagnosed bone tuberculosis. Following the treatment plan, the patient underwent surgery twice and regularly took the prescribed medications, resulting in weight gain.” According to Firdavs Nabatov, if a person experiences symptoms such as fever, weight loss, and decreased appetite in the early stages of a disease, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.
Ibrahim Azimov, deputy director of the hospital, in a conversation about tuberculosis patients who were hospitalized, noted that there are currently 207 patients in the hospital. Of these, there are 4 children and 41 patients with non-infectious diseases such as bronchitis, asthma, and bronchiectasis. “It’s important to note that children with tuberculosis can’t get rid of the disease on their own, as the tubercle bacillus activates precisely where there is already damage. If a patient seeks medical help for the first time and isn’t getting better, they’re hospitalized for 56 days. After that, we release them, but we keep an eye on them. Antidepressant treatment is free, and patients are treated in a timely manner,” A. Ibrahim said.
According to official statistics, there were 3,925 new cases of tuberculosis in 2022. Of these, about 380 cases were among children under the age of 18.
