Cooperation in the prevention of tuberculosis in Tajikistan

Members of parliaments from Eastern Europe and Central Asia visited the office of “Cooperation on Tuberculosis Control in Tajikistan” on May 17. In the afternoon, traditional music was played at the entrance of the TBT office. Representatives from the parliament, heads of tuberculosis institutions, international organizations, and journalists from those countries were welcomed by staff with bread, salt, and traditional Tajik hospitality.

During the visit, the distinguished guests learned about TBT’s efforts in prevention, detection, treatment, and support for tuberculosis, as well as the importance of raising public awareness about the disease. At the same time, they interacted in a warm and friendly setting with representatives from countries working to prevent tuberculosis. The guests also had the opportunity to meet with prominent individuals and members of the “Our Heroes: No Tuberculosis” collective, including Nozia Karomatullo, Mukimjon Abdufattayev, and Khabib Khakimov, known as the “Goddess of Love,” and Abdurakhim Nabiyev, known as Mergan’s grandfather.

Visitors were able to learn about the most advanced methods of diagnosis, treatment, care, and education related to tuberculosis. These included:

After the visit of high-ranking guests, Donierhuja Fozilov, a member of the “Our Heroes: No Tuberculosis” team, invited everyone to “a cup of tea”. This event was filled with bright humor and was especially memorable thanks to the representatives of tuberculosis prevention – Mukimjon Abdufattayev, Abdurakhim Nabiyev (Mergans’ grandfather), and Daler Rakhmonzoda. During the meeting, all traditions and elements of traditional hospitality were observed. The event took place as part of the Tuberculosis Summit in Eastern Europe and Central Asia and the Civil Society and Media Forum, which were held in Dushanbe from May 16-18, 2023.
